Tips On How to "Beat" the Hospital

While you are on the behavioral health unit everyone is watching you and taking notes: the social workers, the nurses, the psychiatrists, and the patient care technicians. My first hospital stay I was there for 17 days; 10 days for my second stay; and 5 days for my most recent stay. Through my three stays, I've learned what they're looking for:

  1. Shower
  2. Eat regularly
  3. Make up your bed; clean/organize your room
  4. Attend as many groups/activities as you can
  5. Make an effort
  6. Speak about your experience; be reflective
  7. Be compliant
  8. Be proactive and advocate for yourself
